Economic Stimulus Briefing

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (P.L. 111-5). The new law contains funding to help states, communities, and families recover from the current recession. While a number of initiatives were funded to help in a myriad of ways, $2 billion was included for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), which is allocated to states based on a formula. Out of this funding, states must use at least 4 percent consistent with current law for quality related initiatives. In addition, another $255.1 million is to be used for quality related activities, of which $93.5 million is to be used for activities to improve the quality of infant and toddler care.

The Administration is committed to an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability. A new web site has been established(Recovery.gov) to track the new stimulus spending and to make allocations, competition for funding, award decisions, progress toward goals, and project evaluation information available to the public.
